A session on our theme ‘New Narratives for Auckland’
What if Auckland were to get past its problems with housing and transport? There is no shortage of people pointing out the problems but who has the image of what the smart, better, liveable, and progressive Auckland could look like? What would be the picture if the mana and capacity of this huge urban habitat was restored?
We said last week hold this space, now we can announce the panel:
- Shamubeel Eaqub is the Principal Economist at the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research. His focus is in analytical frameworks to aid economic forecasting, commentary and incisive research into topical areas of economics. [Copies of his new book Generation Rent will be available for purchase.]
- Dita De Boni is a columnist, commentator and TV producer. She’s written for the NZ Herald and TVNZ Business, News and Current Affairs. She moved back to her first love, business (with a politics chaser) in 2012.
- Martin Udale has a 30+ years history in property markets, with specific experience in the commercial and residential development partnering with others to create value from underused assets. He specialises in business advice to public and private sector organisations.
The Auckland housing crisis and the gridlocked roading system are evidence of a failure to manage the growth of our biggest city. They show a lack of ideas, a lack of will and a loss of faith in policy. Tensions on how to deal with these issues have spilled into the political arena. These tensions seek a narrative for leadership, imagination and democracy. For this session we want the politicians to be in the audience!
