Addressing Wealth Inequality; an opportunity to reconnect with middle New Zealand - Peter Neilson

According to Oxfam the richest 10% of kiwis control more wealth than the remaining 90%. Most New Zealanders who lose their ability to earn an income do not have enough savings to last a month without a significant drop in their standard of living. How can we increase the resilience of Kiwi families through building human capital, home ownership, protection against long term illness and a more comfortable retirement? Public opinion has lead on these issues before and can again.

Peter Neilson is CEO of the Financial Services Council. He was also for 8 years the CEO of the Business Council for Sustainable Development. He is an economist, Labour MP for Miramar (1981-1990) and a Cabinet Minister with various portfolios in Finance, Revenue, SOE’s Public Works, Trade and Industry and Social Welfare.
