The Voyage of a Lifetime - a Free Event!

InvitationIf you were to describe New Zealand as a ship, what kind of ship would she be?

Would New Zealand be a jet boat, fast travelling and able to turn on a dime? Or would she be a tug boat that plods along, able to only go as fast as the weight she bears allows?

Maybe you see New Zealand as a container ship, a country geared to export goods offshore, or a passenger ferry, like the Interislander, designed to move people in comfort.

A full house heard Rod Oram, Rick Boven, Bernard Hickey, Arena Williams and Sel Pellett use the analogy of New Zealand as a ship to give their views on the state of the New Zealand economy and  suggestions for its future course. Respected experts in their field, they  shared wisdom they have built up over years of collecting data, distilling information and acquiring knowledge to help us know what this ship looks like, and what it needs to do to become the best it can be. You can watch the full event here.

Good stuff. Very good planning of an interesting up front programme. maybe more thought needed about the human listen dimension. Why not one less speaker and more time to catch ones thoughts and ask questions. Why not make use of other time before and after with some simple questions or ice breakers to build bridges between people. Certainly something more is needed from my perspective to help feel
a part of Fabians and not just an
occassional visitor at a lecture. I need
to learn, and that means space to share etc.
However sundays event was good. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for sunday, it was a very good time. However,if we hsd had one less speaker, we could have had more time to catch our thoughts, think, and ask questions. In the variety of styles
we enjoyed all kinds of new ideas were
probably stirred up/released. There was little time to learn from each other, or
get something we not clear on sorted out. However congrats, well done.

Better use may have been made also of the
free time before and aft. We felt among
many who knew no one else, and felt a little ignorant; but some sinmple opener questions to chat to a neighbour about may have helped. I guess you want to build some better connection and flow between people. thanks, Russell R
