Mike Williams, Past President of the NZ Labour Party, and Gwen Shaw, Past General Secretary, Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand on The Jacinda Years.
The picture has changed. Jacinda resigned and suddenly, our future takes on a different look. She was a distinctive Prime Minister, giving us a whole new profile for leadership while facing challenges that had never been contemplated – terrorism, a natural disaster, and a very threatening pandemic.
Still, her governments were MMP innovators, prepared to lead a large body of reform and carry a New Zealand message to the globe. She was welcomed on the world stage. In resigning she spoke of the impact of leadership and how she needed to refresh; to enjoy the human delights of taking her daughter to school and finally getting married. We were surprised by her candour, impressed with her style. Her time in office is worthy of review. There is so much to appreciate.
