Jane Kelsey - Transforming neoliberalism

Registration is closed for this event

Prof Jane Kelsey examines what the ACT party and the NZ Initiative are up to as they seek to impose on the country their hardline, right wing, neoliberal ideology.

A progressive government elected in 2026 would have a huge job putting Humpty Dumpty together again and rebuilding a state that serves New Zealanders rather than corporate interests.

But beyond that, what should be the progressive agenda and strategy be going into the election and into government and what lessons can we learn from the Rogernomics and Trump eras? Prof Kelsey takes a look at what the Greens, Labour and Te Pāti Māori coalition could do to achieve a genuine transformation of the old, failed neoliberalism and not just another remake.

Jane Kelsey is an emeritus professor, retired from the Law Faculty at the University of Auckland. She is one of our most acute social commentators.
