Paying serious attention to Domestic Violence

Paying serious attention to Domestic Violence; Dealing with an austere government that has police suggesting they may not respond to all calls!!!

This panel has an impressive research-based assessment of the significance of domestic violence – its prevalence, its diverse forms and impacts, the economic disruption and the capacity, both current and required, to respond to the levels of harm. These issues need to be explored and we are very pleased to facilitate this:

  • Debbie Hager is a public health researcher and activist with a focus on men’s violence against women, the intersections between violence, substance abuse and mental distress, and violence against disabled people.
  • Emma Saunders is Chief Executive of Good Shepherd NZ. They support and advocate for women and girls experiencing hardship. Amongst other things, Good Shepherd offers a specialist family violence economic harm service.
  • Pauline Gulliver is an honorary senior research fellow at the University of Auckland. Her experience draws from understanding the prevalence and risk factors for intimate partner and other forms of family violence.
