Prof. David Peetz – Why have wages and salaries remained depressed while indicators of labour demand appear robust?

Registration is closed for this event

This public talk looks at various factors behind the international slowdown in wages, exploring concepts of power, inequality, collective bargaining and monopsony in labour markets.  Prof David Peetz is a visiting economist from Griffith University, Brisbane, whom we have invited to talk us through the workings of concepts such as monopsony (have a look here too).

David Peetz is Professor of Employment Relations at Griffith University and a co-researcher at the Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la mondialisation et le travail (the Inter-university Centre for Research on Globalisation and Work) in Canada.  He was recently a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Advanced Research Collaborative in the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, was once a manager in the Senior Executive Service of the Australian Government’s Department of Industrial Relations and has undertaken work for unions, employers, the International Labor Organisation, the OECD, and governments of both political persuasions in and outside of Australia.  He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.  His most recent book, The Realities and Futures of Work, will be published soon by Australian National University Press.
