Whatever happened to New Zealand’s proudly independent foreign policy? Can the next progressive government restore that independent and more principled stance?
Malcolm McKinnon from Victoria University will chair this session and the panel members will be Greens spokesperson on foreign policy – Teanau Tuiono, along with Labour deputy spokesperson Vanushi Walters, and we are just awaiting confirmation from Labour spokesperson Peeni Henare.
Some key questions for discussion will include:
- How can we revive New Zealanders’ longstanding commitments to nuclear disarmament, peace and human rights?
- How might we connect with and support Gen Z opposition movements across Asia and beyond
- Can we refocus our Pacific relationships on the climate issues that are so critical to Pacific peoples and governments?
- How can we support the building of a global alliance of progressive governments from South Africa to Brazil and beyond?
- Migration and migrant rights: how to build a positive narrative
