New Zealand Fabians William Pember and Maud Reeves are best known by New Zealanders as the architect of ground-breaking labour legislation and as a suffragist. Iin Britain from 1896, Pember Reeves becamethe director of the London School of Economics, and Maud became an expert in the household budget of London working familie. Their daughter Amber and famous Fabian HG Wells tested the moral beliefs of the group by having an out of wedlock baby – without regret. During World War One, Maud held a senior role in the Ministry of Food. Amber worked in the Ministries of Munitions and Labour, in spite of being the mother of three young children. Their son Fabian became a pilot and died in France.
