Dr Chris Werry, Associate Professor at San Diego State University and Director of its Writing Program, discussed his experiences with private, for-profit, online universities in the United States at a Fabian seminar in Wellington in April. He described a project he is working on that seeks to examine the way right-wing think tanks, trade groups and lobbyists use language to persuade and shape educational policy. The ideas and tactics he discusses have implications for the introduction of charter schools in New Zealand. His presentation is here.
